Consultation on Oxford Street: please share and respond––by tomorrow!

Westminster City Council has announced £60m plans for Oxford Street & area––but while they are taking cycling seriously elsewhere in the borough, they are not here—in fact things could be made worse for the 4,500 cycle trips per day. The council should be bolder and emulate Camden’s Tottenham Court Road (TCR) scheme, where all vehicles can get to & from TCR, but only buses and cycles can travel through it.
West End through traffic needs to be reduced or removed entirely; this would be a huge benefit for residents and visitors.

LCC invites members, supporters, residents and everyone––to attend a solemn cycle protest across Battersea bridge, to mark the ongoing toll of collisions, one month after a 27-year old woman was killed cycling across the bridge.

LCC demands rapid action, safe cycling and an end to the toll of serious and fatal collisions on Battersea Bridge and surrounding area from TfL, the Mayor, Wandsworth Council & RBKC

Camden Council are consulting on the introduction of protected cycle lanes on Crowndale Road, between Royal College Street and Bayham Street.

The scheme is not perfect but we think everyone should support it, with a request for its extension to connect with the Mornington Crescent and Arlington Road LTN.

Introduction for people who would like to be more involved with rides in their local group or with other groups around London. It is also a refresher course for people who already lead rides, and open to anyone considering volunteering as a ride leader with LCC; suitable for cyclists confident riding on the road in challenging circumstances.

Someone is killed or injured on UK roads every 16 minutes; ruining lives and creating a climate of fear that limits children’s freedom to play and makes walking, wheeling or scooting angst ridden rather than joyful.
Decades of prioritising the car has compromised our safety and taken away space, only for it to be clogged with traffic.

Victims rarely see justice, as perpetrators are free to drive for months (or years) before their trial––even after killing someone.

Extract: Strategy To Re-Allocate Parking Spaces To Other Uses In Lambeth

Currently, 94% of kerb space in Lambeth is allocated to parked vehicles. Under a £31.7m plan, the Council aims to transfer 25% of the kerbside to bus lanes, street trees, rain gardens, parklets and cycle parking as well as car club and disabled bays, pledging to significantly cut onstreet parking as it seeks to meet its net zero target by 2030.
