We’ve supported local grant applications to Lewisham’s NCIL fund which will be decided over the coming months. If you have a scheme in your area, please support it by writing an email to the relevant ward councillor, details are here. Applications include secure cycle storage in Grove Park & Downham wards (3 hangers) and also in Catford South (2 hangers). All three wards currently have zero hangers. There are also two applications for better connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians. One is a feasibility study to improve north south connections between Blackheath Village, Lee Green and Grove Park also improving access to green space. The second is a partially off-road route for cyclists and walkers between Catford to Forest Hill and Sydenham taking up part of the Waterlink Way and other quiet roads. All applications have widespread community support, but we expect there to be more applications than money. 

Our latest update on C4 shows further steady progress on this new safe cycle route along Evelyn Street. With thanks to Andrew for keeping watch, and the tireless work of the construction teams. Completion date currently estimated for March 2022. The “missing link” around Surrey Quays up to the Rotherhithe Tunnel junction is expected to get underway in due course with completion potentially by late 2022, although questions still remain about its funding situation in light of the current short term funding agreement between TfL and the Department for Transport.  

Our winter rides programme includes trips to Westerham, Box Hill, various Central and South London locations including the famous parks. Ideal for socially minded cyclists these rides usually involve a break for lunch and are gently paced. We also offer our "Rides for all" on the third Sunday of the month and Tuesday Totter rides in the evening, staying local and often finishing in a pub or cafe. This is a great time of year to get your bike checked and we've got a number of workshops planned for the New Year. For more details, see our rides/events calendar. 

Next year is the election year for London authorities and Lewisham Mayor and Council. We’re currently drafting pre-election pledges we’ll be asking to support. Linked to London Cycling Campaign’s Climate Safe Streets banner, we’ll be setting specific targets for safe routes, bike hangers, and better connected neighbourhoods through more filters, contraflows, and safer crossings. We’ll also be asking candidates to commit to a dedicated Active Travel Fund as Transport for London’s budgets are severely constrained.
