In the last edition we flagged up our campaigning priorities for the 5 May local elections. We've now produced Climate Safe Streets pledges which have been distributed to Mayoral candidates asking them to commit to bold action to decarbonise our streets in Lewisham. Make sure you ask the questions on the cards to your local candidates when they come knocking! Even better why not drop them an e-mail using this link. We've already seen commitment towards our pledges from the Lewisham Labour Party and the Lewisham Green Party, but nothing so far from Lewisham Liberal Democrats and Lewisham Conservatives. Thats why we're asking for you to tell your candidates to do more.

Remember, Lewisham lags behind neighbouring inner London boroughs when it comes to providing Healthy Streets.

As part of this campaign, we're organising a Ride to showcase the good, bad and ugly bits of Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich, highlighting why all 3 local LCC groups think all 3 councils need to do better in enabling active travel. More details below and at link.

Upcoming Community Events

We have an action packed schedule ahead of us with a number of rides and community events coming up.

- Starting with a Dr Bike at the Horniman Spring Fair on Easter Saturday, providing an opportunity to have your bike looked at for free by our fully trained mechanics.

-Our latest Family friendly "Ride for all" on Easter Sunday (sign up here), going from Ladywell to Dulwich Park and back.

-Our big Climate Safe Streets Ride is on Saturday 23rd April, departing locations in Deptford (10am), Greenwich and Southwark as part of our Climate Safe Streets Campaign. Sign up for this family friendly ride on Eventbrite here

-Our next Lewisham family cycling library event with Climate Action Lewisham in Forster Park on Sunday 24th April (Sign up here), where you can try out trailers and our electric cargo bikes to reimagine how you can transport your kids in a zero carbon way.

-We'll also be at the Love Beckenham Place Park Community Day on Saturday 30th April, with another Dr Bike and a chance to talk about all things cycling.

Latest progress on Cycleway 4

Our latest update on C4 shows further steady progress on this new safe cycle route along Evelyn Street. With thanks to Andrew for keeping watch, and the tireless work of the construction teams. Completion date currently estimated for later this year. The “missing link” around Surrey Quays up to the Rotherhithe Tunnel junction is expected to get underway in due course with completion potentially by late 2022, although questions still remain about its funding situation in light of the current short term funding agreement between TfL and the Department for Transport.
